Companion Writing Coaching and Support

Supportive one-on-one writing coaching for writers and storytellers including people who are neurodivergent (or neurospicy), disabled or NDIS participants.

Companion Writing Coaching and Support (Companion) is a sole trader business owned by Sally-Anne Watson Kane. Sally-Anne’s small, diverse team of writing coaches offers supportive F2F writing coaching to writers and storytellers from all walks of life. We support you through guided one-on-one sessions via Zoom or other platforms to improve your skills and confidence in developing, talking, writing and clarifying your ideas, while focused on your specific piece of writing or topic of interest.

Companion’s writing and communication coaching is client-led, non-therapeutic and non-clinical. It is all about improving your communication skills in a respectful one-on-one environment with a professional writing coach, where you can focus solely on expressing yourself and your ideas as clearly as possible.

We currently provide ongoing one-on-one writing coaching support to 13 clients, including 11 NDIS participants.

How our writing coaches can help you meet your goals

Our coaches focus on bringing the best out of storytellers and writers during our online F2F coaching sessions. We enable you to practice and clarify your writing, and practice and improve your engagement and ability to discuss your writing and related topics of interest, in a safe guided space.

Writing goals and confidence

One-on-one coaching can support you to improve your clarity and confidence in writing and discuss your writing, and help you meet your NDIS goals around social and community participation and engagement.

Support to improve writing skills

Our experienced coaches guide and support you as you write, rewrite, structure and clarify your writing during our one-on-one F2F discussions using online platforms (e.g. Zoom) or phone or Word tools (e.g. Track Changes).

Improving communication skills

Our writing coaches support you to explore your writing topics of interest and discuss your writing ideas in a safe, guided environment, which improves your skills and confidence in community engagement.

Companion’s writing coaches live in Australia, have signed our confidentiality agreement and code of ethics agreement, and include neurodivergent, LGBTQI+ and gender diverse coaches.

About Sally-Anne, writing coach manager

Sally-Anne (owner-operator) manages Companion’s team of writing coaches. She matches each client with a suitable coach to provide tailored one-on-one coaching support to writers and storytellers, including NDIS participants. If you are an NDIS participant, Sally-Anne:

  • introduces you to your coach, and collaborates with you to produce a targeted service agreement focused on working towards your goals
  • tracks your progress through the coach’s case notes and talking to you
  • ensures the coaching support is client-led and closely aligned to your goals
  • is available between sessions for you to ask questions by phone, email or text
  • with your consent, reports your progress and activities during coaching sessions to your support coordinator, so they are aware of your progress

Deb Wain coach

Writing coach – Deb

Deb Wain (contractor) lives in Central Victoria. She coaches writers and storytellers who are abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent in improving their writing and supports them to articulate their ideas. She is experienced in running creative writing workshops, has a background in developmental editing of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, and has been coaching and supporting developing writers and storytellers for many years.

Writer coach Kyla-Jayne

Writing coach – Kyla-Jayne

Kyla-Jayne (KJ) Rajah (contractor) lives on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. She coaches writers and storytellers who are abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent in improving their writing by discussing their writing with them and helping them develop their ideas. KJ has a background in developmental editing and coaching in: memoir, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s literature, fantasy and dystopian fiction. She has been coaching writers and storytellers for many years.

Writer coach Peter Loupelis

Writing coach – Pete L

Peter Loupelis (contractor) is a neurodivergent coach who lives in Melbourne. He coaches writers and storytellers who are abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent in improving their writing and articulating their ideas verbally and in writing. He has a background in editing: academic writing, fiction, fantasy and graphic novels. He has been coaching writers and storytellers for several years.

Lu Sexton writing coach

Writing coach – Lu Sexton

Lu Sexton (contractor) lives in Daylesford, Central Victoria and identifies as LGBTQI+. She coaches writers and storytellers who are abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent in improving their writing by discussing their writing with them and helping them organise and work on their ideas. Lu has a background in theatre, music, arts development and community engagement. She has been editing since 2012 and coaching writers and storytellers since 2019.

Writing coach – Pete S

Pete Symons (contractor) is a neurodivergent coach who lives in Melbourne on Wurundjeri Country. He coaches writers and storytellers including people who are neurodivergent and/or disabled in improving their writing, and supports them to articulate their ideas verbally and in writing. He has a background in writing and editing: academic literature, local histories, biographies and life stories. He has been coaching writing and storytellers for many years.

Kyle Walmsley

Writing and storytelling coach – Kyle

Kyle Walmsley (contractor) lives in Melbourne and identifies as LGBTQI+. He supports abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent writers and storytellers to tell or write their life stories or creative stories and to expand on and improve their ideas and writing. Kyle has a background in theatre, arts development and community engagement. He has been coaching and supporting developing storytellers and writers, and helping them document their ideas and stories via verbal and written methods, for many years.

Storytelling and illustrations coach – Eloise

Eloise Wilkes (contractor) lives in Sydney. She supports creatives who are abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent to write and expand on their creative ideas and stories, develop them through illustration, and transform their ideas into comics or graphic novels. Eloise has been creating art (illustrating) all her life. She coaches storytellers via verbal storytelling and articulating their ideas, and helps them bring their concepts to life through illustration. She is currently completing a Bachelor of 3D Design and Animation.

Writer coach Sally-Anne

Writing coach – Sally-Anne

Sally-Anne Watson Kane (Companion’s owner/operator) is a neurodivergent (ADHD) writing coach based in Moe, Gippsland. She coaches writers and storytellers who are abled, disabled and/or neurodivergent in improving and structuring their writing and articulating their ideas. Sally-Anne has a background in developmental (structural) editing and coaching diverse clients in: life stories, memoir, poetry, family history and novels. She has been coaching writers and storytellers for over 25 years.

She’ll choose the coach who she thinks is your best match and introduce you via Zoom. Once you are happy with your coach, Sally-Anne will get you started on your writing coaching journey; and if you are an NDIS participant she will ask you some questions and write up a service agreement for you.
